About Steampunk Creative Engineering

Hi, I’m Mick, I run Steampunk Creative Engineering where I enjoy creating innovative, quirky and unique repurposed lighting and furnishings with a steampunk/industrial theme and a sprinkling of humour.

After over 40 years in industry, initially in a toolroom and subsequently as a multi-skilled maintenance engineer, in 2021 I decided to leave the shifts and the daily grind behind and live the artisan lifestyle. I haven’t looked back once.

I am fortunate to live next to open countryside in a cottage on the edge of Eyton upon the Weald Moors, a small village a couple of miles North of Wellington, Shropshire and just down the road from Ironbridge, where industry was born. I have a workshop at the bottom of the garden where I put imagination and the knowhow, tools and equipment I’ve built up over the years to work.

The steampunk theme of my venture comes from my passion for steam-age machinery; copper, brass and cast iron. It is my aim to preserve a little of our heritage by reinventing old items to make them fun, visually appealing and useful in the modern world.

Focusing on sustainability, I use interesting vintage or reclaimed parts wherever possible, often whisked from under the scrap-man’s nose. However, for safety reasons, I use new ‘live’ electrical components that are CE, UKCA and/or BSI approved in all lamps and individually safety test each one before it is offered for sale. I carry out all my operations in a responsible manner and all bulbs supplied with my creations will be low power consumption LED items; good for the planet and your pocket – they can be beautifully decorative too.

Please look at my shop pages to see my current stock of high quality, uniquely repurposed home décor and why not sign up for my newsletter on my home page to keep up to date with new creations?

Quality

All of my products are  hand built to the highest standards using quality new electrical components. I will use UK or EU made electrical parts where I can and all will be UKCA or CE compliant.

Safety

Safety is key in my designs, at every stage from concept to individual testing and UKCA compliance.

Sustainability

Repurposing is by nature sustainable, I remove items from cupboards, sheds and waste streams to make them exclusive and desirable. Low energy use LED bulbs save electricity besides offering many decorative effects
